One of the most common plastic surgery procedures we perform here at the center is breast augmentation. So there's a couple different options you want to consider when thinking about undergoing breast augmentation. First could be your selection of implants. There's a saline implant versus a silicone implant.
Silicone implants are more commonly used because they generally feel more natural than saline implants. And now they're all gummy bear implants, which means that they don't leak as a liquid as they did from earlier generation breast implants. Generally for breast augmentation, you can either put the implant in above the pectoral muscle or below the muscle, meaning submuscular.
The benefit of one versus the other depends on the shape of the aesthetic you're looking for from the breast. As well as having soft tissue coverage of the implant, so it's not as obvious as opposed to if you put it on top of the pectoral muscle. All these options will be discussed with you at your consultation.
The type of incision and scarring that you can have from breast augmentation is very, very limited. I generally prefer putting the incision on the inferior portion of the breast so it's entirely hidden versus on a surface of the breast also called a periareolar scar, where also an axillary scar sometimes can be considered.
However, the operation, I think, leads to more problems and complications than a direct inframammary approach. So breast augmentation should be something you can consider. There's a lot of different options. Make sure you go to a board certified plastic surgeon to be able to discuss those options with you and see what fits best for you.
